For a while now, we’ve been hearing rumors that Apple is apparently developing their own electric car tentatively known as the Apple Car. However, according to a tweet by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he has heard that the team behind the Apple Car has actually been dissolved for some time now.
Kuo also writes that should Apple want to be able to start mass producing their cars by 2025, a reorganization needs to happen within the next 3-6 months. It’s actually a little bit weird to hear that the team has been dissolved, especially since it was last year that there were rumors and reports of Apple seeking out manufacturing partners and were talking to companies like Kia.
The Apple Car project team has been dissolved for some time. The reorganization within the next three to six months is necessary to achieve the goal of mass production by 2025.

In fact, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested back in November 2021 that Apple was apparently accelerating work on the project, so to hear conflicting reports that the team has been dissolved is indeed kind of strange. Gurman had also reported that the team had gained a new leader in the form of Kevin Lynch, Apple’s VP of technology who had preivously worked on products like the Apple Watch.
To be fair, Apple building their own car would be a major shift in the company’s focus and efforts as it is a completely brand new product category from what they were known for, so changes in the team, leadership, and so on is to be expected. Either way, it’s probably best to take this with a grain of salt for now and since 2025 is still quite far off, only time will tell how Apple’s car plans will play out.
