Base iPhone 14 Models Won’t Come With 120Hz ProMotion Display

Something that we’ve seen Apple do in the past is where they typically announce features that will be exclusive to its higher-end iPhone models, and then bring it over to the next-gen’s base models. If you were hoping to see 120Hz ProMotion display in the iPhone 14 base models this year, prepare to be disappointed.

According to a recent rumor, it has been suggested that will not be the case. The tip comes from Twitter user @Shadow_Leak who claims that the base iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models will feature a flexible OLED display, versus the Pro and Pro Max models that will come with a flexible OLED LTPO display.

• iPhone 14: 6.06″ Flexible OLED Screen, A15 Bionic, 6GB RAM

• iPhone 14 Max: 6.68″ Flexible OLED Screen, A15 Bionic, 6GB RAM

• iPhone 14 Pro: 6.06″ Flexible OLED LTPO Screen, A16 Bionic, 6GB RAM

• iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6.68″ Flexible OLED LTPO Screen, A16 Bionic, 6GB RAM

For those unfamiliar, LTPO is a display technology that consumes less power, making it ideal for features like a higher refresh rate that might otherwise drain more power. Combining it with an LTPO panel means that Apple is able to put a higher refresh rate in the display without it affecting battery life too adversely.

That being said, keep in mind that these are dynamic refresh rates that can change from 120Hz to 60Hz or even lower, depending on what users need, which already makes it pretty efficient. At the moment there is no confirmation from Apple yet, but seeing as the iPhone 13 series was launched in September last year, there’s still a bit of wait before we learn more about the iPhone 14 series.
