Body Tracking Could Come To The Oculus Quest 2 In A Future Update

With some VR headsets, it can only track your head movement which is the easiest since the headset is worn on your head. Other devices like Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 can do more, like track your hands and finger movements thanks to the integration of wide-angle grayscale cameras.

However, it seems that it is possible that in a future update, body tracking could be added to the headset. This is according to a report from UploadVR where they spotted a screenshot on the Quest 2 developer blog that revealed that body tracking is an option that developers might be able to enable for users in the future.

The screenshot has since been deleted but it is already generating a ton of speculation as to what it could entail for the device. UploadVR speculates that it is possible that this body tracking feature might not necessarily be for the Quest 2, but rather a device codenamed Project Cambria, also believed to be called the Quest Pro, that will come with more sensors for eye and even face tracking.

This is because of the way the Quest 2’s cameras are positioned where it might not be practical or that useful to include body tracking. However, a headset that can do all of that would certainly be pretty cool. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see what kind of fruit this discovery will bear, so stay tuned for more updates.
