Don’t Ignore Facebook’s Email About Enabling Facebook Protect

If you have received an email claiming that it’s from Facebook asking you to click a link to enable Facebook Protect, we’ll be honest and say that if you thought it was spam or some kind of phishing email, we won’t blame you because the email pretty much reads like what you’d expect a phishing or scam email to look like.

However, it turns out that this is a legitimate email and one that you definitely shouldn’t ignore. This is according to AppleInsider who have confirmed with Facebook who said that the Facebook Protect emails some users are receiving are 100% legitimate, so if you have received one that you either binned or are ignoring, you might want to read it again.

This is because in the email, there is a cut-off date for you to enable Facebook Protect, and once that date has lapsed and you haven’t done anything, you will be locked out of your account until you enable it.

For those who are confused about what Facebook Protect is, it’s basically a feature launched several years ago designed to help protect the accounts of political candidates, but it has since been expanded to include other users. Not everyone will receive these emails because according to Facebook, it’s targeting users who they believe have a greater than average reach on social media, like brands, influencers, celebrities, and so on.

You won’t lose your Facebook account if you don’t enable it, but basically you’ll be locked out until you do once the cut-off date has passed, so if you have come across this email, do take a look at it.
