Assuming Google doesn’t change when they typically host its I/O conference, we can expect that I/O 2022 will most likely take place towards the end of May. As usual it will be quite an exciting event to look forward to, especially since there have been rumors suggesting that Google could unveil new hardware.

This includes the Pixel 6a and also Google’s long-rumored Pixel Watch. However, that may no longer be the case. According to a report from Jon Prosser, he claims that Google could actually be delaying both the smartphone and the smartwatch to possibly late July due to chip shortage on the phone front.

as i mentioned in today’s show:

i am hearing that google has delayed the pixel 6a until late july. (chip shortage)

pixel watch is still may 26th, but the source believes it could soon be pushed as well.https://t.co/iqoh9RlCzk

Prosser notes that the Pixel Watch could still be on track for May, but his source suggests that it might be delayed alongside the Pixel 6a, so don’t get your hopes up just yet. Now to be fair, Google’s past Pixel “A” devices have typically launched in August, as was the case with the Pixel 4a and 5a, so Google choosing to launch the Pixel 6a in late July is actually slightly earlier than their norm, assuming the rumors are true.

Either way, with nothing being officially confirmed, even with I/O 2022, it’s probably best to take these reports with a grain of salt until we can get more information. We are a couple of months away from May so we should have more details in the coming weeks.
