Samsung Confirms Galaxy Source Code Was Stolen
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The other day, hacker group Lapsus$ published a bunch of data that they allege belonged to Samsung. This contained all kinds of sensitive information like source code for various Samsung products, such as its phones. It looks like the data breach was indeed real as Samsung has since confirmed it to be so.

In a statement released to Bloomberg, Samsung said, “According to our initial analysis, the breach involves some source code relating to the operation of Galaxy devices, but does not include the personal information of our consumers or employees. Currently, we do not anticipate any impact to our business or customers. We have implemented measures to prevent further such incidents and will continue to serve our customers without disruption.”

Thankfully, as Samsung notes, no personal information was stolen in the process so as far as Samsung users and employees are concerned, their privacy is safe. However, the bad news is that we could potentially see an uptick in attacks directed towards Samsung devices and services.

This is because having access to the source code will allow hackers to be able to comb through the data to look for vulnerabilities and ways to exploit Samsung’s software and devices, making it easier for hackers to find security holes that they can exploit to gain unauthorized access, but only time will tell how big of an impact this will have on Samsung’s devices.
