Samsung Responds To Claims That It Throttles Non-Game Android Apps

Recently, Samsung has come under fire over reports that the company was apparently throttling non-game Android apps. This was discovered after some users took it upon themselves to change the package names of non-game apps to the name of gaming apps and discovered a very noticeable difference.

Samsung has since responded to those claims in a statement that reads, “Our priority is to deliver the best mobile experience for consumers. The Game Optimizing Service (GOS) has been designed to help game apps achieve a great performance while managing device temperature effectively. GOS does not manage the performance of non-gaming apps.”

One of the main outcries for this is because this isn’t the first time that phone makers, not just Android phone makers, have been accused of throttling their devices. While there are a variety of reasons that we’ve heard over the years, the lack of communication and transparency is one of the reasons why this isn’t going down well.

Samsung has also since stated that they plan to introduce an update that will give users more control. “We value the feedback we receive about our products and after careful consideration, we plan to roll out a software update soon so users can control the performance while running game apps.”
